Kale Chips

By on April 30, 2012

Starting tomorrow I am going vegetarian for a week. I actually started today but tomorrow Branden and our roommate Daniel will be doing it too.
Tonight I decided to make kale chips. I was told about them by my friend Dolci and saw them all over pinterest. They turned out pretty good but I think I added too much oil. They have a bit of an after taste but overall are a pretty good snack.
First I pulled the leaves from them steam.
Then I put them in a mixing boil and cover with oil, salt and garlic powder.
I laid them out on a cookie sheet in a single layer.
I set the oven to 350 and cooked them for 13 minutes.
Simple enough!

Crash Course in Cloth Diapering Part 1: Intro and My Stash

By on April 22, 2012

I have a lot of friends who are pregnant or have babies and are giving cloth diapers a try. I know for me there was so much information out there that it made my head spin. I decided to write a blog with pictures and give a crash course on Cloth Diapers. I am by no means an expert and credit a lot of my knowledge to my childhood bestfriend, Lauren, who sat on the phone with me for hours when I was pregnant explaining all the types of cloth diapers and products.
Since I am no expert I am going to only go over the diapers I have used and what I know about cloth diapering. I do not want to put anything out there that I myself have not used or experimented with.
First I am going to explain the basics of my cloth diaper stash. My stash includes:

Left: 15 pockets, 1 AIO    Right: 4 G’s, 4 Thirsties, 3 Bummis, 2 Flips, 1 Econobum

2 Flip Diaper Covers
1 Econobum Diaper Cover
3 Bummis Super Brite Diaper Covers, size M
4 Thirstie Covers, size 2
1 AI1 Little Fancy Pants Diaper
15 Pockets
4 Medium Gdiapers
Total in use: 30

Changing Station, Top Left to Right: Size 2 Osocozy Prefolds, Size 1 Osocozy Prefolds, Flip Inserts, Gdiaper Inserts, Baby legs.
Bottom: Gdiaper disposable inserts, Luvs diapers for bedtime, Wipes and diaper cream for disposables

Kissaluvs potion, Snappi’s, Rockin’ Green Shake it Up Powder

Diaper pail we use for cloth diapers

3 of my 4 wet bags

2 Small Gdiapers and inserts (no longer use)
2 Bummis Super Brite Diaper Covers, size S (no longer use)
12 Osocozy Prefold Diapers size 1
6 Osocozy Prefold Diapers size 2
10 Gdiaper inserts size M-XL
6 Flip Inserts
1 Econobum Prefold
1 small wet bag
1 medium wet bag
2 large wet bags
Baby wash cloths for cloth wipes
Rockin Green cloth diaper detergent
Rockin Green Shake it up pail freshener
Kissaluvs 4oz lotion potion spray
Diaper Sprayer
Now you may be wondering why I have so many types of diapers. This is because the best advice I got was try a bunch of different kinds and see which one fits your situation best then stock up on that kind. You and your husband also might like different types of diapers as well. My personal favorites are the Flip diapers. The reason for this is they can be used from a very tiny baby to a very big baby. My son has skinny legs so it took him forever to grow into his Pocket diapers. With Flips we had no problems with leaking at the legs. Their inserts are also amazing. The best part about Flips is they have a place in the back and the front on the inside of the shell that holds the insert in place. Some either have them in the front or not at all which is a pain when changing a squirming baby and your insert starts shifting around. For quick diaper changes while I nanny I like the Pocket diapers. They are simple to get on and off without worrying about the insert shifting or taking the insert out and letting the cover dry. My least favorite diapers are the Gdiapers. I loved them when my son was super tiny but as he got older they leaked. I had a friend who had the same problem with her son. No clue why this was happening. I also had an issue with the velcro coming off on my green shell. I still use them at home but do not trust them when we are going out because of leaking.
I think that just about covers it! If you have any questions or would like my to elaborate on anything please feel free to email me. I plan on making more Cloth Diapering posts soon and any questions you have will be answered there!

3 BumGenius girlie diapers I have for sale. Gdiaper snap in liners, swim diapers.

Almonds!

By on April 21, 2012
Last night after work I decided to go buy some super healthy foods since I have been eating horribly lately. My biggest problem is I am always rushing from one thing to the next and never have time to go to the grocery store. Bran was home with Ace so I first went to our farmers market and got a bunch of fruits and veggies and then to Publics. Publics has a Greenwise section in each aisle so you can get the organic, natural or healthier versions on the food. I went ahead and shopped only in those aisles and found THE most delicious snack! It is Vanilla Almond Agave granola. So good! I love anything with almonds in it so I had a good feeling about this. I also picked up some dark chocolate Alomnd milk for good measure, ha!

First Baseball Game!

By on April 20, 2012

Today I missed my baby boy. It was the longest I have been away from him. He spent the day with Branden at a baseball game. His first of many. I was glad they went and had some guy time. Branden went with his friend and his son so I thought it was cute they all went together. Branden is a huge sports fan and loves going to games and now he has his little buddy to go with.

Mr. Mom

A lady thought Ace was being really funny and asked Bran if she minded her taking a picture of him and she would email them to him because he was being so cute and these are the pictures she got.

Think he was having fun? lol

While they were at the game I went to Ikea with Brady, the baby I take care of, and got a fun gift for Ace.

No, he isn’t crawling just leans forward. But how cute is this tent?

Ace | Monthly Updates

9 Months Old

By on April 17, 2012

Adonis,
You are 9 months old! 3 more months and you will be 1! I can’t believe how you have grown from a skinny little peanut to a tall handsome little guy. You were 6lbs 4ozs, 19 inches to now 19lbs 8.5ozs and 29.5 inches. For height you went from 10th percentile to 90th!
You have the most outgoing, silly personality. You love to entertain people and get attention. I have a feeling this could be a good and a bad thing when you get older. You are very inquisitive and try to figure out how things work and are very intense when you are looking at things. You smile very easily at people, which I love. You are friendly and just overall a very happy baby. Your favorite thing to watch is a youtube video called Peanut Butter Jelly Time that your cousins showed you. This past month we celebrated your first Easter and went to two of your friends first birthday parties.  Here are some more tidbits about you.

You…
are starting to show signs of separation anxiety.

love to talk, dance, bath time, read books and turn the pages, splashing in the pool and going to the park with your friends.

can sign “more”, shake your head no and blow raspberries when you are done with your food.
love to be messy when you eat, say “mama”, “baba”, “dada” and babble and jabber a lot.

are starting to become interested in the dogs, especially Simon and you laugh at them and chase them in your walker.

are having issues sleeping after sleeping 12 hours at night. You now get very upset when you wake up.

still are not crawling and have no teeth.

eat 3 times a day and drink 5 to 6 bottles a day.

wear size 3 diapers but are still on the smaller settings on your cloth diapers. You are very skinny in the legs so we have to keep them on the smaller settings to prevent leaks around the legs and are in 9 months clothes but sometimes I put you in 12 months but they are still a bit big and can still fit in some 6 months clothes but because you are tall it really depends on what it is.

get very excited when you see someone you know and really like.

get red in the face when you are nervous or upset.

started throwing a small tantrum when we take something away from you which is funny since you were never the type to get upset.

Despite the new temper tantrums you are such an easy, happy go lucky baby. I feel like we hit the jackpot with you. We love you so much little boogie!

Birthday Parties!

By on April 16, 2012

This weekend has been very busy for us. We had two first birthdays to go to. The first one was for Ace’s best friend Jay. He is the son of one of my brother’s childhood friends and his wife, Pam, and I have become really good friends. The second one was for my friend Lindsey’s daughter Kayden. She is the sweetest baby ever!

Pam 8 months pregnant, Me 5 months, Bonnie 4 months

Jay 1 year, Ace 9 months, DJ 8 months

At Jay’s birthday we took a picture of Pam, her friend Bonnie and me with our boys. We had taken a picture with another one of Pam’s friends when we were all pregnant at her baby shower so it was cute to take the same picture a year later. Bonnie’s son is about 3.5 weeks younger than Ace and was already crawling around and poor little Ace was just sitting there playing with toys while all the other babies were walking or crawling around. He will get there soon though I think. He is starting to really try to figure it out.

Today was Kayden’s first birthday. My friend Lindsey did an amazing job with all her decor for the party. It was very girlie and pretty. This picture our other friend Lindsay took and I just love it. She was trying to eat her cake and eventually just went in for the kill. I had gotten a picture of Lindsey and me with the babies but it was so blurry because my phone was dying. I am so bummed I didn’t get a better one or one of us with our two other friends and their babies. Oh well. We have lots of times to get more pictures.
Overall our weekend was busy but awesome. Tomorrow Ace will be 9 months old and he has his 9 month appointment so I am excited to see how big he is! So far he has gone from the 10th percentile to the 25th at 4 months and 50th at 6 months and he has gotten quite tall so I am curious to know what percentile he is in.   I will try to post his 9 month update tomorrow!

Caught Red Handed

By on April 10, 2012

Yesterday’s exercise challenge was a success! I will say its easier then it needs to be honestly. I added 10 push ups to the mix. How did everyone else do?

Today Ace and I had lunch with my best friend. I am off till Thursday so it was nice to get to go out there and see her work and catch up.
Caught red handed
Ace has reached an interesting milestone. He has started pulling his diaper’s off. Well, he actually only did this with his Bummis diaper because fit has velcro sides so hopefully he will not figure out the snaps. I got a funny picture of him doing it. He was so interested in the sound the velcro made that he didn’t quite realize what it was he was doing I don’t think.

Easter Weekend Update

By on April 9, 2012

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend. We celebrated Easter with family and had a great time. We started the weekend off on Friday since I was off work. I took Ace to the splash park with a bunch of my Mommy friends and it was so fun. The water was cold so we just hung out on the blankets and the babies played and the mommies caught up.

Later that night Bran and I went on a double date with my cousin Mike and his wife who we are really close with and their kids watched the baby. We love doing stuff with them. It was a nice night out.

Saturday I went over to the Rodeo where church service was going to be because my cousins were there helping set up and we wanted to get some pictures of Ace. We got a few decent ones but since he wasn’t napping and still feeling icky he wasn’t in the mood. He has been crankier then normal. He usually is not fussy or anything so its been out of character for him. Everyone was all about him so of course once all the ladies held him he was all smiles again.

Sunday, Easter, we gave Ace his Easter basket full of books and a few other treats and then got ready for church. The service was fun because it was at the rodeo and they did a little show before hand. After that we went to my parents house and went in the pool and the kids had an Easter egg hunt. Ace got an egg with a dollar in it lol.

Overall it was a great weekend. We are hopefully going to go look at houses on Wednesday!!! Keep your fingers crossed for us.
How is everyone doing on the 20 day challenge? With our busy weekend and a sick baby I haven’t started, oops! I am going to start today so I will post tomorrow on how it goes.

BABY FEVER!

By on April 3, 2012

I have been having some major baby fever lately. I can not get over it. My husband and I going to let nature take its course so to speak for now and if nothing happens whenever we actually want to really try then we will be heading to the doctor to see what is going on. As some of you know I have PCOS and that is why it took us more than a year to get pregnant with Ace. I have yet to have a post pregnancy period so the hopes of getting pregnant on my own anytime soon are slim to none. Either way baby fever is setting in. Not sure if it’s because Ace is becoming more and more independent and getting closer to toddlerhood or if it’s that I want to have my children close in age like my sister and I are.
It’s a hard thing to decide when you feel slightly conflicted. In one way I want my son to have his babyhood over with, have his own things he is interested in and a lot of time with just Branden and me before we have another one. Then I think of how fun it is to always have a playmate and someone to share a room with and confide in and just grow up together with. I then think well what if the next one ends up being our last one? Does that make a difference in how far apart I want them to be? I am thinking too much about it but I know it will happen when the time is right just like it did with Ace.
And now for your daily dose of cuteness…
