Sick, House Hunting, Twins!

By on January 30, 2013

This was the post I wrote yesterday and forgot to post it. OOPS!

Oh my have I been slacking on the blogger front. I have had a busy week and now I am sick. I thought it was allergies and then it turned into a burning sore throat. Very miserable. I spent the entire day in bed today until my sister came over and we picked Ace up from school. He had two mosquito bites, one on his head and the other on his arm so the poor boy looked like he had a really big forehead. He always has horrible reactions to bug bites so hopefully the swelling goes down tomorrow.

On a very exciting note, we have found a house! It was one of my good friend’s parents’ house. I ended up posting on Facbeook we were house hunting and one friend asked which area and I told them and then my friend whose parents were going to be selling their house wrote me and told me about it. I was so excited because I love their house. Branden and I checked it out on Sunday and he loved it too so we now just need to get the ball rolling on that. I will know more on the closing date and such soon. So glad we didn’t have to look at a ton of houses, the ones we looked at we didn’t love so when we looked at theirs it felt like the perfect match for us.

I can’t believe January is almost over. Soon we will be heading into February which means Valentine’s Day! We don’t do anything super amazing but last year we went to this Mexican restaurant with Ace and I told Bran I wanted to do that again since it is during the week and maybe on the weekend we can do something just the two of us. Ace loves the restaurant because they have guys who sing at your table and that boy loves music and dancing.

What is everyone else’s Valentine’s Day plans?

Oh and before I forget I wanted to say a huge Congratulations to Erin over at Hoping for Our Own Peanut for her exciting news of TWINS!!! She guest blogged here after she had her second son and discussed infertility so I am beyond thrilled for them.

Swollen Eye & Living Social Coupon Code!

By on

Today Ace and I are staying home from work and school since I had a horrible sore throat and my little nugget has a swollen eye! Yesterday when I picked him up my sister and I noticed he had a bug bite on his forehead over his left eye and it was starting to swell. This didn’t surprise me since he always gets swollen from bug bites. He had a low grade fever but overall seemed fine. He had dinner, a bath and played for a bit then I put him down for an early bedtime. He knocked out but I kept checking on him because of his fever and swelling but he was fine. This morning I had off because of my cold and I was going to bring Ace to school but when he woke up his eye was completely swollen shut and his forehead was swollen too.  They gave him a little benadryl and we were sent home so now my little nugget is playing and in a great mood.

If anyone loves Living Social as much as I do than head over to their site now because you get $5 off your order of $15 or more! WOOT! Use code SAVE5

Wedding Favors!

By on January 26, 2013

I look back on my wedding day and I still can’t believe it has been 3 and a half years that Branden and I have been married. Time flies when you’re having fun!

With a few of my friends getting engaged and planning their weddings I have had the opportunity to help them with a few details. One of my favorite things to check out are wedding favors. I remember thinking about all the cute things I had seen at other people’s weddings when I was engaged and knew it was on the minds of my friends. I think some of my favorite favors have got to be the Heart Spoon Favors. I think they add an adorable touch to a wedding and also are something you can use when you get home. Another favor I have always liked, which my friend Michelle had at her wedding, are the glass coasters. Again they can be used when you get home and are a nice little favor for each guest.
I think whenever you can give your guests something useful it is always a plus. I of course always love when you can get a tasty treat to go along with it as well.

A new favor I saw recently were kitchen timers! I seriously love this one. They come in different styles but my favorite has got to be the champagne ice bucket one. Another new one I had never seen before are salt and pepper shakers. I mean, come on? How awesome is that. They have a couple different styles of these as well but I think the LOVE one is so fitting for a wedding. So many great wedding favor ideas, how can you pick just one?!

My Top Day Care Must Haves

By on January 21, 2013
 photo ScreenShot2013-01-21at122742AM_zpse0e58ecc.png
It’s day care time in the Kania household! Ace is rolling with the big boys. This meant we had to get him all ready for his first day of “school”. I took a little ride to the store and got some special things for his first day. My favorite has to be his little lunch bag. I love the Skip Hop designs. We got him the dog one but I found an adorable giraffe one online and had they had it in the store I would have gotten it instead but the dog one is super adorable too.
Some of my fellow Mommy friends also gave me some great tips on what to pack for him so combine that with what the day care had told us to pack and what they suggest I think we got a good top ten list right here!

Ace is Going to Daycare!

By on January 17, 2013

Yesterday Branden and I decided to check out daycares for Ace since I just started a new job. I decided that it would be a good time to have him go to a daycare part time so he can start experiencing new activities and playing with more children. I had gotten a couple of recommendations from a friend and checked them out and also checked out the local Montessori school. I have always been a huge fan of Montessori learning but I know they are usually pretty pricey and some don’t even take children till 2 or 3 but we figured it was worth a try and boy was it!
First of all the immediate entry was much nicer than the other one we had gone to. We had gotten there during nap time but were able to peak in the room and it was much more spacious which I liked. Then we went outside and get this, they had horses there! I mean how freakin’ cool is that? They had two very nice playground and a lot of open space, another bonus.
We went inside and talked about pricing, activities they offer and some more details. Here is what I loved even more about them…

  • They offer “hip hop” classes every Tuesday which is actually just dance for his age. They also offer ballet, karate and horseback riding for an extra fee but I loved that they had a dance class included in the price.
  • They have a fun bus come for the kids to play in once a week.
  • They have Dr. Sues shows I believe once or twice a month.
  • They have swim lessons in the summer for all students.
  • Their pricing was so reasonable. The other daycares I spoke to had such a minimal difference in price for full-time and part-time which annoyed me. The one had only a $5 difference and another it was $15. This place has an $80 difference. Now they are more expensive for full-time but to me you are getting what you pay for at this school. This also shows me they value each family’s individual needs.
  • They will use our cloth diapers, the other one didn’t think they could and didn’t seem interested in even checking just said they didn’t think so. This allows us to save money, if we had used the other daycare we would have been paying more for part-time and also buying more diapers, no bueno for us!
  • They have other students who use sign language and were more than willing to continue doing sign language with him. Granted he communicates when he uses his signs but the signs help understand what he is saying when certain words sound like something else. Help and Up sound very similar but he signs them differently.
I am so excited for him to start. I just know he is going to really love it there. I can’t wait to see all the new things he learns from them and gets to experience.
Does your child go to daycare or a Montessori school? What do you love about your child’s school or daycare?

Ace | life | Monthly Updates

18 Months Update!

By on January 16, 2013

Big Boy Ace! You are now 18 months old. Just one year ago today you were 6 months old and now you are such a little person, it is incredible! I feel like this past month has been such a big one for you. You are such a big boy. You finally go down the slide on your own and usually go down backwards which is really cute.

You have started straddling Tanner and bouncing on him. Poor dog just lays there and takes its.

Separation anxiety is at an all time high. You get very upset when you have to go in the nursery at church or if I leave you with anyone other than Daddy but get over it quickly. I think it upsets me more than you.

The other night (1/9/13) when Daddy got home you said “Hi Dada!” You made our nights with that one. You will say a couple words together if we ask you but that was the first time you really did it on your own. You also say or try to say “lets go” and “I love you”.

You say hi and bye to everyone who passes you when we are out and say it till they acknowledge you. You have been mistaken for being at least 2 because people think you talk so well and are so social.
You also will blow kisses when we ask you to say “bye, bye”. You have gotten really sweet about giving us hugs and kisses.

You are a big time Daddy’s boy right now which has got to be the cutest thing for me to see. You two have so much fun together. You also love your dogs. You always say “Molly” even though is sounds like mommy.

You also are able to say a lot of people’s names. Some of the ones you try to say are Kayla, Uncle Mike, Uncle Dustin, Aunt Joanna, Aunt Ashley, Maggie (Auntie M.), and Minnie.

You went to a Yo Gabba Gabba themed birthday party and had so much fun. I am thinking if you are still obsessed with them by the time your birthday comes around that might be the theme of your 2nd birthday. You always ask for Yo Gabba Gabba which is so funny to hear you try to say it. We can’t wait to  take you to see them in March!

This past month you have also gotten the dreaded molars. Most of the time you have been ok and not had issues but I have noticed about 4 times when I can tell they are hurting you and you have woken up a couple times at night crying and if I rock you you will go back to sleep but I just know those teeth are causing you to wake up crying and it breaks my heart.

This month has been full of so many wonderful memories. I love you so much you little crazy boy! I can’t even imagine having a bigger blessing than you.

New Signs: kiss, orange (Kayla taught you that!)
Diapers: Size 5 if in disposables
Shirts: 2T/24 months
Pants: 18 months finally but you sometimes still need a belt.
Shoes: 5.5
Favorite thing to do: put toys inside of a treasure box, wipes box or anything like that, scooping dirt and putting it into a bucket, playing in the bath

What We are Loving & Don’t Want to Forget

  • Your jibberish
  • You are a total Daddy’s boy right now
  • How you blow kisses whenever someone says bye to you
  • That you are incredibly outgoing and funny
  • How happy you are all.the.time. It’s so awesome.
  • The way you say this, its precious

Red, White and Blue Toddler Room!

By on January 13, 2013

PhotobucketI am not sure if I have mentioned this yet but this year we plan on buying our first home! With this I really want to make over Ace’s bed room. I want the “theme” to be Red, White and Blue and Nautical. My Dad had painted this awesome picture of Uncle Sam, it is similar to the “I Want You” pictures but instead of pointing he made him giving the peace sign, cool, right? He had given it to me when I was probably 16 and I have always loved it. I told Branden when Ace got bigger I wanted it to be in his room so we will be going off of that.
PhotobucketPhotobucketI of course have been pinning a bunch of ideas for his “big boy” room and can not wait to get started. I recently saw some awesome things on Zulily so I snatched those up. I can’t wait to get them in the mail. My husband might want to slightly strangle me because I am bringing all these things in and we need to be cleaning the house out, ha! I am obsessed with these anchor totes for his toys. How cute is it? I got two so I figured one can be for his stuffed animals and the other for his books or for his blogs and legos.
I also grabbed this adorable pillow which I am not sure if I will put it in Ace’s room or our room but I really liked it and it was only $8.99! Throw pillows are always so expensive and I like ones that are a bit more unique so this one was really my style. I thought it would be cute in Ace’s room with the big number 3 but since it is more of a cream color I am not sure if it will look good or not. We will see!

Photobucket

I saw this Kidkraft Boat Toddler  bed at the local consignment store’s website. I am really hoping they still have it.

Any tips on nautical or red, white and blue bedding? I am having trouble with that part.
